Sprinkler system credited with containing apartment fire in Plover
PLOVER, Wis. (WSAW) -A commercial sprinkler system helped keep an apartment fire from spreading Thursday evening at a multiunit complex in Plover, allowing everyone to evacuate safely, officials said.
Crews from the Plover Fire Department, Plover EMS, and Plover Ambulance were dispatched at 6:36 p.m. to a 12-unit apartment complex on Commons Circle for a report of a structure fire with visible smoke. Due to the scale of the call, Metro Fire — which includes the Stevens Point, Hull, and Plover fire departments — was also called to the scene.
Firefighters arrived to find the building’s fire alarm active and residents evacuating. Crews located and extinguished a fire in a lower-level apartment while simultaneously helping other residents get out. Firefighters also rescued two pets from one of the units. All occupants and pets were safely accounted for, and no injuries were reported.
After clearing smoke and ensuring the fire had not extended beyond the room where it started, officials allowed residents of the 11 unaffected units to return home.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. However, investigators noted that the building’s wet sprinkler system activated as designed, suppressing the flames until firefighters arrived.
Plover Fire Chief Mark Deaver credited the automatic sprinkler and alarm systems with preventing further damage and thanked Metro Fire partners, the Plover Police Department, Plover EMS, and Plover Ambulance for their response.
