Wisconsin Assembly to adjourn next week as session winds down

MADISON, Wis. (Gray) - Wisconsin legislative leaders from both parties met for a roundtable discussion hosted by the Wisconsin Counties Association as the clock ticks down on the current legislative session.

Republican and Democratic leadership from both the Assembly and State Senate discussed elections, property taxes and their agendas on Wednesday

“We are in the throes of the end,” Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said. “The legislature’s last session day in the Assembly will be next week Thursday, which means in the next 10 days we are going to spend billions of dollars, pass dozens of bills and you’re going to walk out saying, ‘how did they do it?’”

The state Assembly will hold a floor session on Thursday. The state Senate currently has just one more floor session scheduled.

“I know the Assembly is going to be done next week which is unfortunate. We could go on longer,” state Sen. Dianne Hesselbein, the senate minority leader, said. “This is something they’re putting on themselves. We could be meeting until May. There’s a lot of work to be done.”
