Portage County hit-and-run suspect dies, prosecutors move to dismiss case

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) - A suspect in a Portage County hit-and-run case has died.

Samuel Milkey was arrested Aug. 6 after a skateboarder was found with critical injuries on Jordan Road near Stevens Point. Investigators believed the victim had been hit by a vehicle and the driver left the scene.

Milkey appeared in court Aug. 7. Bond was set at $75,000 cash, which he posted.

His obituary states he died Aug. 8.

Prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss his case on Tuesday morning, which included charges of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle and hit and run involving great bodily harm.

As of Tuesday, the victim remains hospitalized.
