Sylvan Hill tubing to open after cold-weather delay
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Sylvan Hill, a public tubing hill, will open at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19.
It has six runs on two slopes. It is located on the city’s north side by the Tribute Golf Course.
Sylvan Hill has offered tubing for the community since 2003. Prior to offering tubing, it was a ski hill featuring a tobaggen run.
“It’s been really a hidden gem for people to come out, enjoy the outdoors tubing,” said Mark Dorow, Recreation Supervisor for Wausau & Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department. “You don’t have to have any skills to tube besides jumping on a tube and getting the courage to go down the hill.”
Sessions cost $8 to $11, depending on age. There are two sessions on Saturdays and one on Friday and Sundays. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall. Children under 42 inches tall cannot ride alone or in an adult’s lap.
“So my son is really excited to come tubing this year. And it’s really something that I take pride in because he sees dad at work,” Dorow said. “So [I’m] really excited to bring my kids this year. And I know a lot of other kids in Wausau, they’re all excited as well, especially those kids that took the tape measure out, and this is their year.”
Adults 14 years and older pay $11 per session. Youth between 42 inches tall and 13 years old pay $8. Youth punch passes with 10 sessions cost $72, while adult punch passes cost $99.
