Janesville PD: Investigations into deadly officer-involved shooting

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating after a Janesville Police Department officer shot and killed a person during a response.

The Janesville Police Department received a call about an armed person in the 1200 block of N. Parker Street around 10 p.m. on Friday, March 1st.

Officers made contact with the armed person, who refused to leave the residence.

Two other people were not able to leave safely, according to the DOJ.

An officer then discharged their weapon, hitting the armed person. The person died on scene due to their injuries. A gun was found on scene, according to the DOJ.

No law enforcement officers were hurt.

The officer involved was wearing a body camera at the time, and is on administrative leave, per department policy.

In a statement, JPD says in part “Our thoughts are with our officers and those within our community who are impacted by an officer-involved shooting.”

JPD says DCI will be the only source releasing information on this incident.

DCI says they will continue to review evidence and will then turn over reports to the Rock County District Attorney.
