Wausau East boys basketball taken down 75-63 in state semifinals
MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) - An amazing ride for Wausau East boys basketball has come to an end, being taken down by Wauwatosa West 75-63 in the state semifinals.
Wauwatosa West led for majority of the game, shooting 50% from beyond the arc. Three Trojans put up double-digit scoring numbers, while Jesse Napgezek became the lone Lumberjack with double-digit figures (21 points).
Wausau East concludes the year with a return to state for the first time since 2007.
“It’s been a goal of ours for a very long time so just having the experience, just getting the experience with this senior group and just having the community behind us is an amazing feeling,” says Napgezek.
Eight seniors will end their high school careers with pride over what they’ve accomplished together.
“We want to get in the gym every single day,” says senior guard Jaydan Garrett. “We go on Saturdays, Weekends, Sundays, overall, I think that’s what’s put us in the position we are today.”
