Man using torch to clear ice from steps accidentally sets his house on fire, officials say
CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) – A man in Cincinnati accidentally set fire to his home Sunday night while using a propane torch to clear ice from his outdoor steps, officials said.
The Cincinnati Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched to the home just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
When crews arrived at the scene, they were told by the homeowner that he accidentally set the siding of his home on fire while using a torch to thaw ice on his outdoor steps.
The fire department said the fire spread vertically, but thankfully, it remained an external fire.
Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, and no one was injured.
The damage to the outside of the home, however, is estimated to be just under $100,000.
The fire department said they “would like to remind everyone to use caution when using heating appliances.”
