Students Learn About Manufacturing Careers

By  |

Factory managers in our area expect there to be a worker shortage in the coming years in the manufacturing sector,
so today they looked to the younger generation to help solve the problem.

Northcentral Technical College partnered with numerous different local factories to hold the first ever "Heavy Metal Day."
It brought eighth grade students from the Wausau and Antigo school districts to tour multiple plants in the area in an effort to make them aware of the job opportunities that exist in manufacturing.

"The kids that walk through here are the next generation of manufacturing. We want to show that there is going to be a worker shortage. We need people that are interested in manufacturing and that it is not the manufacturing of old, it is the new manufacturing. " says Jon Felch of J & D Tube Benders.

About 700 students took part in today's event.
