The Marathon County Sheriff's Department is investigating what caused a U-Haul to explode in the Town of Rib Mountain while in motion.

Lt. Ryan Weber told NewsChannel 7 deputies were in the area of Rib Mountain Drive near Walmart and Cloverland Lane when a U-Haul trailer being pulled by a couple and their dog exploded at 12:48 p.m. Friday spreading debris along the road. No one was hurt.

Witnesses told NewsChannel 7 said the explosion sounded like a bomb went off.

Investigators found a propane tank and other flammable material inside the trailer, but do not believe the explosion was intentional and do not expect to file any charges against the couple.

The Marathon County Bomb Squad and S.A.F.E.R. Fire Department also responded.

Traffic is being routed through the Walmart parking lot.
