Lincoln Log Jog Helps Raise Money for Summer Program

School is letting out for the summer, which means reading, writing, and math could be taking a backseat to summer activities.

Those at Lincoln Elementary School in Wausau are hoping to change that. On Monday, hundreds of students ran a timed mile as part of the 3rd Annual Lincoln Log Jog to help raise money for a summer camp. The camp was started by a former first grade teacher, Connie Meurett before she died from cancer in March of 2012.

"She was also a very, a person who felt deeply about healthy lifestyles and getting kids outside," said Principal Julie Schell, "so this is in memory of her, raising money so that we can continue the summer school program in her name, Camp Connie."

Camp Connie is a full day camp that incorporates reading, writing, math, and outdoor, community activities. The money raised will help with some of the field trip costs. So far more than $300 has been raised through run registrations.
