Lemonade Stand Raises Money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

It's crisp. It's refreshing. It's just the right amount of sweet. There's no doubt lemonade is the quintessential summer drink. One stand in Merrill is serving up gallons of the sweet stuff while raising money for a cause very near and dear to their hearts.

Thirteen year old Liliana Diagostine started the stand last year after learning a boy in her church was battling leukemia. Naturally, she and her friends wanted to do something to help. At first she thought about raising money for the family directly, but then decided to dream bigger choosing to donate all the proceeds from her lemonade sales to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"If we donate it to St. Jude rather than just them, then it can help the whole thing like not just for the cost of chemo, but then also for helping to make it better," Diagostine explained.

"I think it's amazing," customer Logan Lange says about the friends efforts. "It gets them involved in the community and it shows what they're all about and it just helps them at a younger age make a difference in the community. "

That they are one sweet cup at a time. Last year the team raised more than $800 to donate to St. Jude. This year they hope to donate $1,000 towards research and treatment.

"We were really overwhelmed. We know there are a lot of things kids can be doing in the summer that don't have an impact on their community. So the fact that our kids came up with this idea just made us so proud," Diagostine's mom, Ginger, boasts.

At only 25 cents a glass, Diagostine, tells NewsChannel 7 tips from the customers is what makes the biggest difference. If you want to help the group meet their goal, you can stop bye the stand at the corner of State and West Main Street in Merrill every Tuesday and Friday until school starts between 11:00am and 5:00pm to make a donation and get your cup of lemonade.
