The Vilas County Sheriff's Department is warning area residents to only burn when it's safe, after reports of four forest fires Saturday.
According to a press release, the first fire was spotted at 1:30 p.m. near Pomeroy Lake Road and Hartman Drive in Presque Isle. The fire was caused by downed power lines.
The next fire broke out about an hour later in Eagle River. It was possibly caused by a nearby fire pit that had gotten out of control.
A third forest fire was spotted at 2:45 p.m., in Land O'Lakes between Spring Road and County Road B. That may also be related to downed power lines. The fire destroyed two building, but nobody was hurt.
The last fire of the day was reported at 5 p.m., in Arbor Vitae near Witches Lake Road. The cause is unknown.
Fire danger in the Eagle River area is currently reported as high.
