MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A 7-year-old boy was killed and members of his family were injured when a car careened off a road, went airborne and landed on their picnic table.
According to NBC 15, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the 59-year old driver may have had a medical emergency prior to the crash. She was wandering and disoriented following the collision and taken to a hospital for observation. A responding officer did not smell alcohol on her breath, and blood tests have been taken. No citations have been issued at this time.
Authorities say the family was having dinner at the table on private property across from Garner Park when the car left the road, hit a tree and went airborne about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A 36-year-old woman was critically injured. A 38-year-old man and 4-year-old girl suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The State Journal says the injured were taken to University and Meriter hospitals.
