NEW INFO: Lighting Prop to Blame for Fire at Little Bohemia Restaurant

By  |

A faulty lighting prop is suspected as the cause of a fire at the Little Bohemia Restaurant in Manitowish Waters early Wednesday morning, according to the Vilas County Sheriff's Department.

Filming crews for the movie "Public Enemies," starring Johnny Depp, are shooting scenes at the resort.

Depp plays bank robber John Dillinger in the 1930s-era gangster film.

Authorities say in a news release that private security guards saw sparks coming from an upper room of the building at approximately 6:30 a.m.

Only minor damage to one room and ceiling area have been reported.

Universal Studios is not anticipating a delay in movie production.

Fire crews from Manitowish Waters and Winchester put the blaze out.

Former resort owner Emil Wanatka says Universal and Depp were filming the famous shootout at the resort Tuesday on the 74th anniversary of the actual event.

That's when the FBI surrounded Little Bohemia and began firing, believing Dillinger was inside. Dillinger and his gang escaped.
