STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The No. 1-ranked UW-Stevens Point Men's Hockey team took down No. 4-ranked Augsburg, 3-1 on Friday night.
The Pointers tallied all three of their goals in the second period with Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.), Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, Okla.), and B.J. Duffin (Red Deer, Alta.) all finding the back of the net.
The Auggies got on the board first with Chandler Madry capitalizing on a turnover in front of the net at the 13:42 mark of the first period.
Freshman Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) began the second period by tying the game at 1-1. He scored one minute and 50 seconds in. Picking up the assist was Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis.).
The Pointers pulled ahead 3-1 thanks to goals by Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and B.J. Duffin (Red Deer, Alta.) eight seconds apart at the 8:31 and 8:39 marks of the second period. Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich.) assisted on Karty's goal and Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill.) on Duffin's goal.
A scoreless third saw the game end, 3-1. The Pointers had 32 shots on goal to the Auggies 16 shots.
Sophomore goaltender Connor Ryckman (Minesing, Ont.) earned the win, improving to 15-0-1. He made 15 saves. Augsburg's Nick Schmit took the loss, making 29 saves in the game.
The Pointers play Saturday (Jan. 12) against Saint John's (Minn.) at home. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
