STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- UW-Stevens Point head football coach Greg Brietbach announced the completion of his team's schedule for the 2019 season. The Pointers will play five home games, including four against league foes.
UWSP opens the season at John Carroll on Sept. 5 with a trip to Ohio. It will be the first time in program history that the Pointers will travel to University Heights to face JCU.
The Pointers' home opener in Sept. 12 against Wabash. The 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Goerke Park is also the annual Pink Game for Cancer. The Little Giants will make their first-ever trip to Stevens Point for the game.
The non-conference schedule concludes with a return trip to Dakota State on Sept. 19. Last season, UWSP got a 51-28 win, sealed with a pair of fourth quarter interceptions.
October begins with the conference opener against UW-River Falls at home. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. UWSP is 9-1 at home against UWRF in the last 10 meetings.
After a trip to Oshkosh, the Pointers return home to face UW-Whitewater on Oct. 19 in the homecoming game. Kickoff versus the Warhawks is set for 1:00 p.m.
UWSP travels to UW-Stout before returning home for the Spud Bowl versus UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 2. Last season, the Pointers won a defensive battle in Eau Claire, the sixth-straight victory over the Blugolds.
The final road game is a trip to UW-Platteville on Nov. 9. The Pointers close out the regular season at home against UW-La Crosse on Nov. 16. Senior Day kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The 2019 roster will see the return of four all-conference players from last season, Jalen Burks (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside), Victor Ponterio (Melrose, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro), OJ James (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Sam Shafer (Prescott, Wis./River Falls). After winning two of the final three games a year ago, UWSP looks to continue that momentum in 2019.
