ST. PAUL, Minn. - The No. 7 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (6-2) went nearly seven minutes in the second half with just one field goal as host St. Thomas (8-1) put the Pointers in a double-digit hole in an eventual 73-57 loss to the Tommies.

UWSP had four players in double figures with Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) leading the way with 13 apiece. Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added 12 and Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) scored 11 points.

O'Heron led the Pointers with six rebounds. UWSP's starters scored all but two points in the game.

Tauber opened the game with five-straight for UWSP, including his first three-pointer of the season. Fredrickson followed with a three to extend the lead to five at 8-3. O'Heron buried a three to give the Pointers a 17-11 lead, the largest of the game for UWSP. O'Heron scored six of the last eight UWSP points in the half as the Pointers were down just one at 34-33 at the break.

The second half began with a Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) bucket for a one-point lead. Fredrickson scored four-straight and Bublitz added a basket for a three-point lead. Tauber scored to give UWSP a 45-44 lead at the 12:07 mark of the second half. The Tommies followed with a 24-8 run to take a 15-point lead with just over two minutes remaining. Back-to-back steals and layup were too little too late in the loss.

The Pointers head west to play in the Cal Lutheran Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 and 29. UWSP faces host Cal Lutheran at 10:00 p.m. CT on day one and face Illinois Wesleyan at 8:00 p.m. CT on Saturday in California to wrap up non-conference play.
