WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- Newman Catholic senior Elliot Samuels is the 2018 Win Brockmeyer Award winner.

The award is given to Wausau's top prep football player for their contributions on and off the field this past season.

Samuels was joined by fellow nominees Derek Mesunas of D.C. Everest, Wausau East's Trey Buchberger, and Wausau West's Vue Thao.

Samuels recorded 80 receptions for 1,192 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, and finished second in the state in receptions. He had 43 solo tackles and 74 overall.

His efforts on the field earned him all-region honors at wideout by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.

"It's just amazing, it's an amazing honor. I'm just extremely grateful just to be in the company of so many good players and great people it's phenomenal," Samuels said. "Obviously it was the goal, but for it to come true is just a blessing, it's just a surreal experience."

The Brockmeyer Award winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship. The other three student-athletes will receive $500.
