Worker clearing debris seriously injured in Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAW) -- A utility worker was seriously injured when he was hit by a tree while clearing debris.

Mayor Zach Vruwink said it happened Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids. Vruwink said the man worked for a telephone company.

The man was scheduled to have surgery Monday for spinal cord injuries.

Family has established a benefit account through Gofundme with the goal of raising $50,000.

Brian Ortner's wife wrote he was clearing debris off of telephone lines when the limb swung and hit him in the back. She write he went into surgery Monday morning. The surgery will likely take 8-10. She said he has no feeling from the chest down, and that will not change.
