New Merrill Fire Chief has pinning ceremony

MERRILL, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Merrill Fire Department welcomed two new staff members Thursday during an official pinning ceremony.

A badge pinning ceremony took place for firefighter/paramedic Daylan Enkers and Chief Josh Klug.

Chief Klug was previously Wausau Fire's deputy chief and has also been chief at Mosinee.

Klug replaces former Merrill Fire Chief Dave Savone who abruptly retired in March.

Klug was born and raised in Merrill and graduated from Merrill high School. He says having a close tie to the community has helped him grow in his job.

"I found over the years though that it's a huge benefit of significance to the community too because I can't count the number of times you would show up on scene and a family member or the injured person would say 'man, am I glad to see you,'" Chief Klug said.

The Chief also took a moment during the ceremony to recognize Enkers, who is his first hire as chief of the department.
