UPDATE: Townline Road project in Wausau delayed 1 week, DOT to host meeting

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- A major reconstruction project on Townline Road, (County Highway N) is now scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 20. The project was originally supposed to start on May 15, but was pushed back at the request of the Department of Transportation.

WisDOT will host an information meeting to discuss the reconstruction Monday, May 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the City Council Chambers at 407 Grant Street, Wausau.

Adjacent property and business owners are encouraged to attend the meeting.

City plans state traffic will be detoured via Franklin Street. Townline/N will be closed from Grand Avenue to County Highway X.

Townline is one of several major road projects in Wausau in 2019. The other notable project is Thomas Street- which has begun Phase II of its redesign and improvement project.

The arterial roadway projects have been in the planning and design phase for several years. Wausau has held numerous public involvement meetings.

Improvements along Townline Road are anticipated to include: Pavement reconstruction including pavement widening at select locations to accommodate travel lanes, bike lanes, and parking, curb and gutter replacement and extension east of 13th Street, select sidewalk replacements and additions, storm sewer reconstruction where warranted and extension east of 13th Street, municipal sanitary and water improvements including service connections, and railroad crossing reconstruction with new signals and gates.

A February news release stated, “These are very exciting projects and the reconstruction will improvement flow of traffic, create and improve bike and pedestrian accommodations, existing businesses and residents will benefit and new infrastructure always lends itself well to new development”.
