Human remains found in Rib Mountain identified as Asian male

RIB MOUNTAIN, Wis. (WSAW) -- The body found in Rib Mountain State Park by hunters Thursday has been identified as an Asian male, according to the Marathon County Sheriff's Office.

An autopsy was done Friday and preliminary results show the deceased person is an Asian male, about 30-years-old.

The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition and there are some signs that the person taken his own life, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A final cause of death will be released when the investigation is complete.

Investigators have some leads on the person’s identity and are working to positively identify him.

Lt. Jeff Stefonek of the Marathon County Sheriff's Department said, “Because of the delayed nature of finding this body it’s going to take some time to know what caused the death and why the body is there.”

Hunters located the body around 9 a.m., Thursday morning near the Yellow Trail off Begonia Street in Rib Mountain.

The body was located about 200 yards off the difficult hiking trail. The closest home to the scene was less than a mile to the south.
