NWTC students help build structures for zoo

SUAMICO, Wis. (WBAY)-- Northeast Wisconsin Technical College students are lending a helping hand to build a new home for some of the animals at the Northeast Wisconsin Soo.

The emu's will soon go from an outhouse to a penthouse.

Students are donating the labor, the school is providing some of the materials and the zoo will cover the rest.

"Being able to say, if I ever go there with kids or anything, I helped work on that, so that's always something... pride in work," said NWTC student Zachary Desment.

"It's just exciting to do something like this with students over there and knowing how it's helping the zoo out and helping them out," said zoo and park director Neil Anderson. "You feel good about that."

Students will deliver two concession stands and the emu shelter to the zoo next week, where they'll finish construction.
