Marathon County to open more snowmobile trails Friday

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- More snowmobile trails will open Friday at 8 a.m. in Marathon County. Zone 2 and 4 will open with exceptions. Portions of Zone 1 are already open.

Zone 2 will open with the exception of a portion of corridor 20 between intersection 257-258 due to standing water. Zone 4 will open with the exception of Intersection 175-392, 177-178, 178-174 and 178-358, along with 356-357. The river crossing in Marathon at Hwy 29, intersection 355, is also closed.

Zone 1 is open with exceptions:
Intersections 267 south to 406, 266 north, 264 south to 407 and 260 North are all closed due to hazard water areas. The trail that crosses Pike Lake will also be closed until further notice due to unsafe ice conditions.

Marathon County Motorized Recreation Coordinator Mitchell Fox said riders should be aware of plowed fields and wind-swept areas as they may be rough due to lack of snow cover.
