NEW LONDON, Wis. (WSAW) -- According to a news release from the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office, a fire just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday damaged the Log Cabin Bar on Highway 54 in the Town of Mukwa.

Firefighters say they found heavy smoke coming from the basement, below some living quarters, at the back of the bar. The basement was destroyed by the fire. The living quarters and the bar have smoke damage. Deputies said it's unknown when or if the bar will reopen.

While the official cause is unknown, the property owner did say there were electrical problems in the basement before the fire.
