MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Thousands have turned out to say goodbye to a Milwaukee police officer fatally shot while serving a warrant.
The funeral for Officer Matthew Rittner was held Wednesday at Oak Creek Assembly of God Church in suburban Milwaukee on what would have been Rittner's 36th birthday. Rittner was killed while serving a search warrant a week ago.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports mourners spoke of Rittner's love for his family and the city of Milwaukee, and his passion for the Brewers. He and his wife, Caroline, were married at Miller Park in 2017.
Pastor Jerry Brooks says Rittner "lived an extraordinary life." Rittner was a U.S. Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq.
Rittner was the third Milwaukee officer killed in the line of duty in eight months. He leaves behind his wife, young son and extended family.
