Committee votes to have consultant evaluate Riverside soil

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW)-- The Parks and Recreation Committee voted Monday to have a consultant evaluate the soil at Riverside Park.

The soil has been tested by state officials in the past, which has revealed higher toxicity than state standards. Now, the parks committee has decided to get an outside opinion to determine what should be done with the state's findings.

"We've talked how to go about this, and the best way appears to be if we get an environmental consultant, an independent company, that person can help direct us," Chairman Pat Peckham said.

Soil test results showed there would be no harmful effects for adults or children.

The committee will revisit this topic on February 4th when they hope to review consultant candidates.
