WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAW) -- Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against 32-year-old man they said robbed a Wisconsin Rapids gas station in 2017.

Robert Schneider is expected to be formally charged with robbery at his next court appearance on April 8.

Police said on July 10, 2017, two men wearing hooded sweatshirts robbed an employee at Baltus Bread and Butter just before 11 p.m.

The next day, a cash bag from the store containing receipts and checks was located in Westfield. According to court documents a person that was an inmate at the Wood County Jail with Schneider said Schneider told him about the robbery and disposing the bag in a quarry area. Police said the description matched the location of where the bag was found.

The other suspect was not identified in court documents.

Schneider denied involvement but did say he took a trip to the Wisconsin Dells sometime that week.

The gas station employee was not harmed. The robbery was captured by surveillance video.
