It's a new season, and a new mentality for the UW-Stevens Point football team.

The Pointers will be lead by new head coach Greg Breitbach, who brings a newfound intensity to practices.

"It's all about us," Breitbach said. "It's all about how we prepare. It's all about how about how disciplined we are in the first game. We talk every day about taking care of the football on offense and taking the ball away on defense and being opportunistic. But it's really about how we play on that given day. No disrespect to our first opponent in John Carroll, that's a very good outfit, but it doesn't really matter who they play on that given day. That's why they play."

The new head coach and his team will have to improve on a 7th place, 1-6 WIAC record.

But the most pressing issue will be to name a starting quarterback. Last season's team dealt with constant injury, and went through as many as four quarterbacks.

The lack of a definitive signal caller doesn't have the offensive line phased however.

"Both of those guys are awesome guys and whoever coach decides to put at quarterback, we have 100 percent faith in them, and I think we'll be fine at that position," offensive lineman Jalen Burks said.

The Pointers open up their season at home Saturday against John Carroll University. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
