Vosters Heads to NCAA Semifinals After Pair of Wins on Day One

ROANOKE, Va. -- Senior Ben Vosters (Hatley, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) locked up All-American honors and advanced to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Championships with a pair of wins at 133 on Friday.

Vosters began his day with an 11-1 major decision over Chase Petty of Central College. He took a 2-0 lead after the first period on a takedown. He earned four more points in the second period on an escape, another takedown and was awarded a penalty point. In the third period, he locked up the win with a pair of takedowns.

In the quarterfinals, Vosters avenged his regional finals loss by beating No. 2 ranked Sam Bennyhoff of Augsburg in a 13-6 decision. Vosters trailed after one period, 5-1. Late in the second period, he seized the momentum. Trailing 6-1, he took down Bennyhoff and picked up four nearfall points to edge ahead, 7-6, after two. In the third period, he again got a takedown and four more nearfall points to take the match.

Vosters will face six-seed Charles Nash from Baldwin Wallace in the semifinals on Saturday (March 9). Action begins at 9:00 a.m. CT.
