STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The top-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (9-0-2, 1-0-0) opened conference play by defeating UW-River Falls (4-3-2, 0-1-0) on Friday, 3-1.
The Falcons got on the board first, scoring 3:11 into the first period on a goal by Blake Anderson.
Junior Brennen Miller (Keller, Texas) quickly answered for the Pointers, evening the game at the 6:57 mark of the first. Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill.) tallied the assist.
UWSP took the lead at the 6:10 mark of the second period with a goal from junior Logan Fredericks (Millstone Township, N.J.). Ryan Bittner (Crookston, Minn.) and Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) added assists.
Late in the second, Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis.) gave the Pointers a two-goal cushion, burying the puck top shelf off a pass from Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, Okla.).
Sophomore Connor Ryckman (Minesing, Ont.) made 14 saves in the win to improve to 9-0-1 on the year. UW-River Falls goalie Zach Quinn had 26 saves.
UWSP heads to UW-Superior on Saturday (Dec. 1) for another conference matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
