Joe Mertens takes home NC7 Senior Men's Golf Classic title

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- After a six year hiatus, Joe Mertens is once again crowned the NC7 Senior Men's Golf Classic champion.

Mertens was in control the whole way. He had a one shot lead after day one, and that eventually ballooned to a three stroke victory over Mark Asplund.

"It felt like my game was in a good place right now, so today, everything came together," said Mertens. "I was confident, I kept telling myself, you can do it, you can make that putt, knock it on the green, do it. It worked out. I'm happy to have the trophy again."

This comes just a year after Mertens fell two strokes short after receiving a two-stroke penalty for hitting off the wrong tee on 18.
