Wisconsin starting quarterback Alex Hornibrook enters transfer portal

MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) -- Wisconsin football will have a new starting quarterback next season. The Badgers announced that Alex Hornibrook has elected to leave the Wisconsin football team.

Hornibrook announced via his Instagram that he will be transferring after he graduates from the University of Wisconsin School of Business.

“Alex informed us of his decision to leave the team earlier today,” head coach Paul Chryst said via a university press release. “He contributed to a lot of our recent success and we want to thank him for all he did for our program. We wish him the best of luck.”

During his career, Hornibrook finished 26-6 in three seasons and ranks in a tie for third all-time at Wisconsin in touchdown passes with 47.

The soon to be senior struggled to stay on the field this past season with concussion like symptoms.

Jack Coan took over and led the team to a 3-2 record while throwing for 515 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Badgers also have a four-star quarterback joining the fold in Graham Mertz. Mertz is from Mission, Kansas and was named MVP in the All-American Bowl. At the All-American Bowl, Mertz threw for a game record five touchdowns.
