What's your favorite sport?
Lauren Shields: "I play soccer, volleyball, and basketball, and it really depends on the season. So I mean right now basketball because we're in the midst of things, but I just love being competitive in every sport."
What's the best part about being on the Newman basketball team?
"I mean off the court we're all best friends, and I think that's what's really important. I think it just makes it so much more fun. Especially to have Mackenzie Krach our senior, to get her back to state, it just makes everything more fun just to celebrate it with all my friends."
Who's your favorite athlete?
"Well I'm really into hockey, so I like Zach Parise. He's a player on the Minnesota Wild, and he's little, so I can kind of relate, and he's a gutsy player so I just try to be like him sometimes."
What's the toughest thing you've done at practice?
"Well we do like towel drills. I think Julia (Seidel, her teammate) might've said this, but we have to push the towel through our hands as like a suicide with our hands and it's pretty hard."
You're stranded on an island and can take three things with you, what are they?
"I would take something comfy to lay on, so like a hammock. I would bring food, maybe like Cheez-Its, I like Cheez-Its, and I would bring like my mom or my dad."
What are your plans beyond high school?
"I haven't really looked so far into it yet, but I think to stay somewhere local, and maybe play a sport beyond high school, but I'm not sure. All I know is somewhere local."
