WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW)-- For the second year in a row, even par is good enough for the first round lead here after day one of the NewsChannel 7 Golf Classic. Ben Alt heads into day two as your first round leader by one.

"I only missed one Fairway today," Alt said who shot a 72. "I had a pretty good. I chipped in twice which is always a bonus. Definitely played pretty well."

"The game felt pretty good," said Matt Tuman, who carded a 73. "Putting could have been a little better but overall everything was pretty solid. My chipping in my ball striking was pretty good. I got out of a lot of mistakes that way."

Nic Babl is tied for 3rd with Brian Krueger with a 74. "The back nine is usually tougher for most guys. You've just got to keep it in play though and see what happens. There's a lot of shorter holes if you just keep it in place between the trees."

A dozen players made the cut for the championship flight. The cutline was 77. So Alt has 11 guys right behind him ready to chase him down on Sunday.

Over on the ladies side of things, Kailey Godfrey shot a 79 and owns a 4-shot lead over Ashley Nickel.
