WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Wisconsin State Patrol is trying to encourage people to join law enforcement.

Tuesday, Wausau's State Patrol post hosted an open house. People learned about career opportunities in law enforcement and their responsibilities. They're especially trying to fill positions as troopers or inspectors but there was also a member of the SWAT team and a K-9 officer there.

"What we're looking for, men and women interested in law enforcement careers. We provide the training. It's six months at the academy. You don't have to have any law enforcement experience at all. After the course of the six months of rigorous training they come out fully equipped to be troopers and inspectors," said Sgt. Rhae Stertz.

If you're interested, applications are due March 31.
