The state firefighters memorial in Wisconsin Rapids received a $10,000 check today. It came thanks to the Marathon County Battle of the Badges softball tournament.
It is a significant contribution, seeing as the memorial needs funding to expand their wall to include more names soon.
"This is probably by far the largest single donation of cash that the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial has received," said memorial board member Mike Miller. "The wall is where the names are forever engraved in those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. We are down to probably 12 names left remaining that we can engrave on the wall, and we will need to unfortunately expand that for the future."
The annual Battle of the Badges tournament will take place in the middle of September this year. New entries are always welcomed.
