On Saturday the owners of Jalapeno's Mexican Restaurant and Bar in Wausau hosted the cities first Cinco de Mayo Festival located in the Wausau Center Mall.

The family-friendly event featured several traditional Mexican foods and drinks, as well as activities and live performances.

The owners of the restaurant decided to organize the event to encourage diversity and celebrate Mexican history and culture. Doors opened at 2 p.m. and closed at 9 p.m., with an after-party at Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant.

"I have lived in the city of Wausau for almost 20-years,” stated Pedro Pinda, Manager of Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant. “I think the city needs diversity like this for Cinco de Mayo because this is a happy holiday for everyone.”

Kids under 12-years-old were able to enter the event for free and it was a $5 fee for anyone else. All proceeds will be donated to the Wausau Firefighters Community Foundation.
