CNN -- A Volkswagen engineer says he's guilty in the Justice Department's investigation into the emissions test cheating scandal, as was part of a plea deal.

The 62-year old pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States, a wire fraud count and violating the clean air act - and he agreed to cooperate with investigators.

In exchange, he will get a lighter sentence, which will happen in January.
