University of Wisconsin - Madison student Jules West is working toward a bachelor of science in landscape architecture and to get that degree he has to complete a capstone project.

West's capstone is focused on Wausau's north riverfront area. That's the area just north of Bridge Street and it runs north almost to Winton Street.

Tuesday, the project design was revealed to the public and city officials. West's priorities were to research the connection between green spaces and wellness and to focus on storm water management techniques in that area.

"Hopefully just a stepping stone and a way to show people this is just one person's idea on a big big project so hopefully it spurs some ideas and inspiration on what this site could be," said West.

His design has more of a focus on green spaces with a playground, fitness area and climbing area. He said the goal of the project was to try and bring the neighborhood into the design making it a vibrant site that everyone can use and enjoy.

The city is welcome to use any of West's ideas as it looks at potential re-development of that north riverfront area.

As for West, after graduation in May he and his wife will head to San Diego where he already has a job lined up.
