Trial set for potato broker charged with stealing $700K from farmers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -- An eight-day trial is scheduled to begin Wednesday for the 54-year-old former Stevens Point business owner accused of defrauding several farms and trucking companies.

Thomas Lundgren, the former owner of a potato brokerage, Spud City Sales, is accused of not paying farmers in Adams, Columbia, Portage and Waushara counties for their crops.

Prosecutors said Lundgren stole $700,000. He's also accused of defrauding a Langlade County farm out of more than $100,000.

He's charged with 16 counts of theft. Court records list the offense dates as 2011 and 2012.

Lundgren is free on a $10,000 signature bond. Court records list him as living in Columbus, Wisconsin.

A motion hearing is scheduled to take place Monday at 11 a.m.
