1 dead, 2 injured in 3-car crash near Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -- One person was killed and two others were injured following a crash Saturday in Portage County.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 10 and Algoma Street near Stevens Point in the town of Hull.

The initial crash investigation indicated a car driven by Joel Kiedrowski, 39 was west on Highway 10. He passed an SUV and sideswiped it before crossing the paved center turn lane. Kiedrowski entered the east lanes of Highway 10 and collided head-on with an pick-up truck driven by Thomas Swanson, 63 of Hartland. The SUV was driven by Paul Pedersen, 62 of Merrill and occupied by his passenger Kathleen Pedersen, 50.

Kiedrowski died at the scene.

Thomas Swanson suffered severe injuries and was transported to Aspirus Hospital. Kathleen Pedersen suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and was also transported to Aspirus Hospital.
Traffic on Highway 10 between County Road R and County Road J was re-routed for several hours while the scene was processed and cleared.
