The Doctor Is In: Free cleaning service for cancer patients
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- As many patients and caregivers know, cancer can consume a patient's life. Basic activities they used to be able to do, such as cleaning, can become a challenge, and many doctors have said, can actually be hazardous to their health. One organization is helping to make those everyday tasks easier, and now the service is available in the Wausau area.
Sunrise 7 spoke with Marie Arnold Thursday. Arnold is Executive Cleanings full-time 'Cleaning For A Reason' service cleaner. Cleaning For A Reason is an organization that works with cleaning service companies to provide free cleaning services to cancer patients.
She said Executive Cleaning joined the national group in 2014 after its owner and founder, Bob Schneider, was approached by a woman while he was buying furniture. She said the woman, asked him what he was going to do to help. She was a cancer survivor, but need a service that would help other patients. Arnold said that is when Schneider decided to join.
Arnold said she now has about 25 clients, and that the service is more of a ministry than anything else and she loves being able to help make her clients' lives easier and more comfortable.
The cleaning service includes four (or more if Arnold deems necessary) two-hour cleanings for free to people currently going through treatment. She said the organization's services are geared towards women, but added she will not turn down a male patient if they contact her directly. Arnold's coverage spans about 50 miles from Wausau.
People can register at cleaningforareason.org. In order to qualify, patients (or someone on their behalf) will have to verify that they are receiving treatment. Once Arnold is notified of an approved referral, she said she will contact the patient to set up appointments.
