Stevens Point Police are recommending Timothy Butts, 32 of Milwaukee be charged with armed robbery.

Police say Butts was stabbed while trying to rob the Knights Inn hotel in Stevens Point Sunday night.

Stevens Point Police Detective Sgt. Tony Babl says the incident is drug related.

Butts was taken into custody after a traffic stop in Marathon County early Monday morning.

"A female driver was stopped by a Marathon County Sheriff's Deputy in the town of Wien, near Edgar. The robbery suspect was found in the vehicle," Babl said.

Butts was treated at a local hospital for the stab wound and then released to police custody.

Police said it was an attempted robbery, and no money or goods were taken.

The female driver was taken into custody on charges not related to the attempted robbery.

"Of course when we interview people their stories are different so we will re-interview her and see the extent of her involvement but we are not sure if she will be charged or not," Babl said.

Police say they will be looking into whether other arrests need to be made.
