STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -- Explorers are young people who train with fire departments. Now, the Explorer Post 242 in Stevens Point has a little more to train with.
They received a $1,500 donation from County Financial, through its "Operation Helping Heroes" program. The donation will be used to further the mission of post 242 showing 14 to 21 year olds what it's like to be a firefighter.
"We teach them how to use turnout gear, how to do two-minute drills and see if they want to be in the fire and EMS career field when they graduate from high school. They have an opportunity to get a little feel for it before they go out and have to make a decision with college," said Stevens Point Assistant Fire Chief Jb Moody.
The Explorers is a division of the Boy Scouts.
