Sheriff's Dept. warns drivers of 'black ice' conditions

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Marathon County Sheriff's Department is warning drivers about black ice on some of the county's highways.

Black ice forms when temperatures fall before 32 degrees Fahrenheit and there was already rain, snow, or slush on the roadway.

Deputies are urging drivers to reduce speed, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach your destination.

The Marathon County Highway Department is spraying/salting; however, motorists should still drive with caution even on roadways that appear clear.
