A family cookout was held in Sunny Vale Park in Wausau to draw attention to the continued separation of families at the U.S border.

Similar cookouts in over twenty other cities also took place on Sunday afternoon. The cookouts were held in smaller, rural towns.

The purpose of this cookout was to draw the public attention to the separation of children and their families, and the missed deadlines for reuniting them.

"The reason we're doing this is to call attention to the fact that there's still families that haven't been reunited with the new immigration policy, even though there have been two deadlines that the President said he would meet. And this is really concerning that in America, that we would actually traumatize children and families on purpose, and not do the right thing and reunite them" said organizer Joel Lewis.

Organizers of the cookout hope to raise funds to help those families still separated.
