WAUSAU, Wis (WSAW) -- The annual Wausau Snowmobile 525 Race was canceled on Saturday and expected to resume as normal on Sunday.
Every year Wausau 525 raises funds for student scholarships and several other charities. More than 100 snowmobilers arrived hoping to take home a trophy, but due to snow gust, organizers deemed the track too unsafe to race.
“We didn’t want to have to cancel today’s races,” said Ralph Merwin, President of Wausau 525. “With the cold temperatures and the snow gust from racing, it’s very unsafe to race in these conditions.”
According to Merwin, snowmobilers wouldn’t have been able to clearly see the path ahead while racing on the track.
The raffles continued as expected and races are expected. Anyone who purchased a ticket on Saturday can use it for entry on Sunday.
