7 Investigates: Rep. Sean Duffy heads into election far out fundraising Democrat Engebretson
Rep. Sean Duffy is headed into the elections far out fundraising his Democratic opponent Margaret Engebretson by millions of dollars.
Federal Election Commission numbers show since last year, the four-term congressman has raised more than $3.4 million, a fundraising high for Duffy. Of that total, Duffy’s spent $2.6 million, with more than $1.8 million headed into Nov. 6.
Most of Duffy’s individual donations, more than $420,000, come from retirees. If you combine the large industries donating to him, insurance, investment and securities, real estate and commercial banks,
together, they total more than $1.4 million.
While Engebretson has raised a total of $112,167.44 since she started fundraising in January, the Democrat had $31,574.94 cash on hand as of the end of reporting on Oct. 17.
Retirees are also Engebretson's primary group of individual donors, accounting for about $18,000. Overall, her grassroots campaign is relying on small donations from non-profits, business services and some health professionals.
