Power has been restored to thousands of people in Marathon County following an outage early Wednesday morning. At its peak, the outage affected 3,790 customers, mainly on the west side of Wausau, the town of Maine and the town of Rib Mountain, according to Wisconsin Public Service.

A WPS spokesperson tells NewsChannel 7, repair crews are at the scene and the cause is likely due to a feeder or fuse outage. Freezing rain in the area may have been a factor. An exact cause will be confirmed Wednesday morning.

As always, customers are advised not to touch any downed wires, instead call police or report the issue to WPS at 1-800-450-7240.
